THOUGHTS ON NOWADAYS SOCIAL MEDIA

4CHAN MIGHT BE BETTER THAN INSTAGRAM

THOUGHTS ON NOWADAYS SOCIAL MEDIA

Ok, hear me out. I'm not saying that mainstream social media is bad. Well, it is. But I will not be talking about the pros and cons of using Instagram and doomscrolling. Instead, I will focus on the overall experience.

I can't help but feel that using Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter is a toxic experience. You are surrounded by bots, ads, and useless content (which are also trying to sell you something,) making you feel miserable and tired, but engaged enough to keep scrolling and producing money for the big companies (you're literally ruining your attention spam and dopamine receptors so you can watch more ads per day). Now this is some Matrix stuff right here.

Let's talk about Facebook. You were supposed to see photos and content from the people that you love and care about, friends, family, and some celebrities that you also follow. People posted stuff because they wanted to share something with their friends. It was nice, cozy, and familiar. Nowadays, the place is filled with bots, and the little people who still use it, are only active because they like the memes posted there.

When was the last time your feed was filled with pictures from your friends? When was the last time you could see the content you actually care about, without Meta shoving hundreds of ads and brainrot content that is going viral (when you're not even following the page that posted it) down your throat? Instagram decides what you will see and when.

"So your friend posted a picture with his dog? Don't care, now check out this fucking video featuring a Karen having a seizure in the middle of the street. Oh, and don't forget these dropshipping ads, I'm sure you'll enjoy them." - Instagram

Let's now compare it to 4chan. No ads, you'll only see the content that you're searching for, and you are not going to be conditioned into consuming some kind of content (because there is no algorithm trying to "personalize" your experience). Wow, sounds like a wonderful experience to me. The only downside is that the people who use 4chan can be a pain in the ass.

Reddit? Yeah, another goated social media. The experience is still pretty decent, but I'm not a huge fan, to be honest.

I just wanted a place to share stuff with my friends and family without having to see stupid random content (Instagram reels are turning me insane.)

Oh, and don't even get me started on Tiktok.
