Jack Stauber might be the Best Avant Garde Artist Alive

Even though has been 2 years since he published a new song or animation.

Jack Stauber might be the Best Avant Garde Artist Alive

Some of you will say that I'm being preposterous, or that I'm being impartial when I say those words. And you may be right, but it doesn't take away the credit Jack Stauber deserves.

"Jack Stauber's Micropop" is his most famous album, with songs like "Baby Hotline" and "Tea Errors" (both of them are fire). There's also the album Pop Food, featuring the song "Buttercup" which got famous for being played on tons of meme videos on the internet. Even if you're not an experimental music enjoyer, you certainly have heard at least one time one of his songs.

There's also "HiLo", my favorite album by Jack.

Stauber's songs are different from anything I've heard so far. When it comes to Avant Garde music, we might expect funny noises with no harmony, or some disgusting melody that haunts your ears. But that's not the case with Jack. With weird instruments, lyrics that are almost impossible to understand without listening at least 10 times the same song, impeccable storytelling, and an absolutely fair amount of nonsense, it is impossible to have good taste and dislike his work. Don't even get me started on the tone transitions in his music, they are absolutely incredible. He can portray a song about suicide in such a heavenly way, and then make you feel energetic, and then sad, and inspired, only to be left flabergasted, wondering about everything that has happened in the song. Listen to "Baby Hotline" to understand what I'm talking about.

His songs are also so lovely, happy, depressing, and nostalgic at the same time. They make me feel alone in a world where there's only me and myself. It tickles my brain. It makes me feel alive, something that is not usual to me.

But Jack is more than music. Let's talk about his animations.

They are so disturbing, but so beautiful at the same time! A lot of his animations are made in stop-motion, with clay. The big eyes, the choppy movement, the pale skin, and the wide mouth with lots of teeth are a must in Jack Stauber's characters.

He is able to portray urgency and terror, without having to appeal to gore or ghosts. He can make me scared of real life. The short film, broadcasted on Adult Swim: "Opal", shows how unnerving it is the situation of tons of kids and teenagers all over the world, that are living a life of misery only because of their family, being tied to a damned house and abusive parents. Even though there is not a single drop of explicit horror, "Opal" made me have nightmares for three days straight.

You guys know me: Art needs to make people feel stuff. And damn you Jack, you're so fucking good at doing it.

He also makes some "cute" animations, sometimes portraying romance, or a minor problem in a silly and funny way, as we can see in the popular short song "Peppermint", and the short film "Shop: Pop Opera" also on Adult Swim. I would recommend watching them both.

Not only does he make me feel funny things in my brain with his songs, but he can also impress me and affect me in his animations. For me, he is the best Avant Garde artist alive.

Way better than junk artists like Yayoi Kusama.

Thank you, Jack, you helped me a lot in fighting depersonalization. Or maybe your songs are worsening my situation. I don't know. Sometimes, one can become addicted to the medicine.

It's been some time since we got any news about you, Jack. You're not reading this, but it doesn't matter. I really, really miss you.

I'm growing a beard, I want to have one just like yours!

Stoots with headphones, showing his short beard.

Thanks for reading! Best regards.
